What AI localisation actually means for cybersecurity video teams
Most cybersecurity marketing teams produce one video. Maybe two, if the budget stretches. Then the request comes in: can we get this in German? And Spanish? And Japanese?
The answer is usually: not this quarter.
That is changing. AI voiceover and dubbing tools have reached a point where localising a three-minute product video no longer requires booking a studio, hiring four voice actors, and waiting three weeks for post-production. It requires an afternoon and a subscription.
That is genuinely useful. But it also introduces a set of decisions that most cybersecurity marketing teams are not prepared for.
The localisation gap in cybersecurity
Cybersecurity is a global industry. The threats are global. The vendors are global. The buyers are global. But the marketing is almost always written, produced, and distributed in English — with localisation treated as an afterthought, if it is treated at all.
The result is a familiar pattern: a product video lands in the EMEA or APAC region, subtitled or dubbed by a freelancer who does not know the difference between SIEM and SOAR, and the nuance that made the original compelling gets lost entirely. The technical accuracy suffers. The tone goes flat. The buyer notices.
AI localisation does not automatically fix this. But it does remove the cost and time barriers that made localisation feel impossible. Which means the real question is no longer "can we afford to localise?" It is "do we know what we are trying to say in each market?"
What AI tools actually do well
Modern AI voiceover platforms — ElevenLabs, Murf, Resemble AI and others — are genuinely impressive at replicating tone, pacing, and emotional register. For a product explainer or a customer story, the output is often indistinguishable from a human recording.
Where they struggle is context. A phrase that lands well in English can sound oddly formal, or strangely casual, in a direct translation. Technical terms that are standard in the US market may not have clean equivalents in German or French. And the cultural register of a "confident but approachable" brand voice does not translate the same way across every market.
The tools handle the audio. The thinking is still yours.
Three things to get right before you localise anything
Start with the script, not the video. AI dubbing works best when the source script is clean, concise, and free of idioms that do not translate. If your original script is full of colloquialisms or relies on wordplay, fix it before you localise. The tool will not catch what does not work.
Know which markets actually need it. Not every market requires a fully localised video. Some buyers are comfortable with English-language content; others are not. Talk to your regional sales teams before you build a localisation pipeline. They will tell you where the friction actually is.
Build a glossary. Cybersecurity terminology is inconsistent across languages. "Threat detection" in German has several plausible translations, and the one you choose will signal something about your brand's technical positioning. Agree on a glossary before you start, and give it to whoever is reviewing the AI output.
The real opportunity
The teams that will get the most from AI localisation are not the ones who use it to produce more content faster. They are the ones who use it to reach markets they previously could not afford to reach at all — and who do the thinking upfront to make sure the message holds up when it gets there.
Localisation has always been about more than language. AI makes it cheaper. It does not make it easier to get right.
